Captain Rick Haines is a dedicated fishing guide with deep local roots and a lifelong passion for the waters surrounding St. Augustine, Florida. With years of experience navigating the intricate inlets and the vast offshore blue water, he has developed a sophisticated understanding of the region's diverse marine habitats. His background is defined by a commitment to the craft of angling, ensuring that every guest benefits from a guide who is not only a seasoned professional but also an expert in local fish behavior and seasonal patterns.
Rick’s approach to guiding focuses on providing a patient and educational environment, making him a preferred choice for both serious anglers and those looking for family-friendly experiences. He finds genuine fulfillment in sharing his local knowledge, whether he is teaching a child how to land their very first catch or helping an experienced pro target a trophy Mahi Mahi or Sailfish. This focus on the guest experience ensures that a day on the water is about more than just the harvest; it is about building a connection with the historic Florida coastline.
Consistency and reliability are the hallmarks of Rick's service, as he operates with the belief that a successful day is built on preparation and local insight. By staying closely attuned to real-time fishing conditions and recent bites, he can adapt techniques—from high-speed trolling to bottom fishing—to match the current environment. This expert-driven perspective provides guests with the reassurance that they are in the hands of a knowledgeable specialist who treats every outing with the highest level of professional care.

What to Bring: Your Checklist for the Water
Sun Protection: The Florida sun is powerful. Bring lotion-based sunscreen (please, no spray/aerosol sunscreen as it makes the deck slippery), a wide-brimmed hat, and polarized sunglasses to cut through the water’s glare.
Proper Footwear: Wear non-slip, light-colored, or non-marking rubber-soled shoes (like deck shoes or sneakers) to stay steady on the boat.
Layers of Clothing: Even on warm days, the early morning run offshore can be breezy. A light windbreaker or long-sleeved performance shirt is always a good idea.
Snacks & Food: Fishing builds an appetite! Bring along your favorite snacks or a lunch for longer full day offshore fishing trips.
Camera or Phone: You’ll definitely want to capture the moment when you land that Mahi Mahi or Kingfish.
Personal Cooler: While we have ice on the boat, we recommend leaving a cooler in your vehicle to transport your cleaned fillets home safely.
Motion Sickness Prep: If you are prone to seasickness, we recommend taking your preferred remedy (like Dramamine) the night before or at least an hour before we leave the dock.
A Note on Drinks: You are welcome to bring beer or canned beverages in moderation. For safety reasons, we ask that you avoid hard liquor and glass bottles on the boat.
